Telerehabilitation / Virtual Physiotherapy

The use of information or communication technologies to allow you and your physiotherapist to connect via telephone, video or other remote monitoring technology to receive physiotherapy services at a distance when an in-person visit is not possible.

How it works?

Anchored Physiotherapy provides fast, direct access to clients via secure 2 way video consult from the privacy of your own home, workplace or gym.

Your physiotherapist is knowledgable in a variety of areas including sports injuries, pelvic health, prenatal/postpartum care, pre- and post-surgery rehab, stroke rehab, pain solutions, concussions, consultations, evaluations, and exercise prescription.

All sessions are one-on-one between you and your physiotherapist, and your information is kept strictly confidential.

Many insurance companies are now covering these types of visits (Blue Cross, GWL/Canada Life, Sun Life, Manulife, Chamber of Commerce, WCB and MPI.

Who can benefit?

Possible scenarios or clients that may benefit from telerehabilitation (virtual) physiotherapy:

  • Post surgery follow-up to review for home exercise program or progression of exercise prescription
  • Concussion symptom assessment and treatment recommendations
  • Acute low back pain recommendations to manage pain symptoms immediately
  • Assessment, education, recommendations, and exercise prescription for various aches/pains and conditions
  • Prenatal/Postpartum care (pain, exercises/stretching, urinary incontinence)
  • Pelvic pain (sexual intercourse, pelvic girdle pain with movements/activities, incontinence)
  • Ergonomic assessments
  • Clients unable to leave their home due to transportation or physical restrictions
  • Remote clients that would be required to travel extended distances for physiotherapy intervention

In some cases, telerehabilitation would not be recommended and an in clinic session would be more appropriate.  Your physiotherapist will inform you if this is the case with your specific situation.

Appointment Process

  1. Click the "Book Online Now" Button on our main page to head over to our booking page to set up an appointment.
  2. A credit card will be required to be left on file when booking but will not be charged unless this is the type of payment you want to use for your visit.  E-transfers can be accepted if you prefer for full visit fee or remaining balance if your insurance covers a portion. Payment is not required until after the appointment is completed.
  3. An email will be sent to the client with the link to the online video portal.  The client must have a computer with a webcam and an internet connection or a smart phone.
  4. Clients are able to have a support person attend their appointment with them if they choose.  This is recommended if balance is an issue or they will be required to assist with your exercise program.

Appointments must be paid by credit card or e-transfer.  E-transfers can be directed to [email protected] and the password recommendation will be provided during the video consult.

At this time, many insurance companies are reimbursing telerehabilitation (virtual) physiotherapy services.  It is suggested you talk to your insurer directly prior to your visit to confirm they will cover this type of service, as insurers will not provide individual plan details to our clinic about your plan.

At Anchored Physiotherapy, we believe this is a cost/time effect and viable option for many clients and feel they are just as effective as in person visits in many situations, as the education and exercise prescribed during your video appointment will provide you with valuable education and exercise prescription that will empower you to take an active role in your physical health and well being.
